About Our Charity Work

Since 2004, The founders of Aarathy Trust were visiting and volunteering to many shelter homes in and around Chennai. Those humanity care services were the inspiration behind the start of Aarathy Charitable Trust and Idhaya Vaasal Elders Home. The Trust and Home were started in January of 2008. This was a dream child of the founder of the Trust, S. Parthasarathy (aka) Service Sarathy (Late). Sarathy, being an astonishing service volunteer he taught and guided social services to many youths. Now the home is continued to run in the way he shown, in memory of Service Sarathy.

The old age home is one of the best of its kind in Chennai. Aarathy Trust is also involved in many enviro - health - educational services and social upliftment of poor. We admit destitute elders rescued by volunteers from street sides and received here with police general memo.

The poor and needy patients are also admitted with the reference of NGOs and distance relatives as guardians. To all the elders treated well with proper medical and bed-care support, irrespective of caste and creed. Now in the old age home 40 elderly residents living with us and 13 of them are bed-ridden patients.

Helping others in nothing new to all of us! Our Indian tradition is rich in humanity and always emphasizes charity services in our life. Across the country still we can see bunches of pilgrims' house and choultry, shelter homes, orphanages and other types of philanthropic facilities. These are assisting the travelers, disabled, destitute and poor peoples. This denotes that, food, shelter and clothes were generously shared by the people with downtrodden from time immemorial. Let's continue the philanthropic services in our successive generations too.

Dr.C.R.Suriyakumar, PhD

Late Shri. S. Parthasarathy aka Service Sarathy, Founder Trustee, started his volunteering services from the age of 13, inspired from a school trip to Sivananda Ashram. The week ends of Sarathy was not like the other neighbourhood children, he used to sell soaps, phenol, etc in and around Guindy, Velachery and Taramani areas of Chennai. Most of the money he earned were spent for the poor children at the orphanages for their notebooks, pencil and gifting new cloths during festivals. He played role model to many like minded youngsters and who were all became volunteers and joined Sarathy's hands to serve the society. More @Sarathy

Sarathy visited more than 40 Elders’ Home in and around Chennai from his school days onward. The type of shelter homes he visited include special children homes, cancer care centers, mentally retarded homes, home for AIDS patients, leprosy care centers, elders’ homes and children orphanages. He used to spend his time with each and every inmate of the Homes he visited and take care of cleaning, feeding, making their time lighter by chatting and comforting them with cheerful words. Because of his ardent desire which was inspired through these services, he had been thinking for a long while to give a kick start for an Elders’ Home. Along with his thick friend Dr.Surya he starting Aarathy Charitable Trust and Idhaya Vaasal Elders' Home in the year January 2008. The Home lost him forever in December 2010 at his age of 26, during an attempted robbery. His ambition and pure service thoughts, especially the charm he made volunteers to feel by helping the needy people, are driving his volunteering friends towards his way of service activities and they continue from where he left behind.

Mrs. R. Pushpavalli, President of the Trust, was another mother to the Trust's Founder Parthasarathy. Also donated the Home 10 steel cots, and offered 2,000 sq.ft residential space in Velachery, Chennai's main area to carry out the Trust and Home's activities. Sarathy was working in a MNC, so the the day care to elders was given by Surya and slowly he became inseparable with this big family.
