About Charity Work

In India, our tradition of selfless service runs deep. From pilgrims' houses to shelters and orphanages, numerous philanthropic institutions assist the needy. This legacy highlights the importance of sharing resources with those less fortunate—a tradition we're dedicated to upholding. Let's carry forward this noble tradition of philanthropy, enriching lives in our communities and beyond.

Aarathy Trust

Since 2004, Aarathy Trust's founders actively volunteered at Chennai's shelter homes, inspiring the establishment of Aarathy Charitable Trust and the Idhaya Vaasal Elders Home in January 2008. Founded by the late S. Parthasarathy, fondly called Service Sarathy, the home embodies his dedication to service, inspiring youths in social welfare. Today, it stands as a tribute to his legacy.

 Elders Home

The Idhaya Vaasal Elders Home is a leading elderly care facility in Chennai, part of Aarathy Trust's broad humanitarian initiatives. Beyond elderly care, we're active in environmental, health, and educational programs. We provide shelter and care to destitute elders rescued from the streets, and offer support to impoverished patients referred by NGOs and relatives. Regardless of background, all elders receive compassionate medical attention and proper care. Currently, our home hosts 40 residents, including 13 who require specialized bed care.

Board of Trustees

Sarathy (Late)

Founder Trustee

Dr.C.R.Suriyakumar, PhD

Late Shri. S. Parthasarathy aka Service Sarathy, Our Founder Trustee began his journey of volunteering at just 13 years old, inspired by a visit to Sivananda Ashram. Unlike other kids, his weekends were spent selling house-keeping goods in areas like Guindy, Velachery, and Taramani, with most earnings going towards helping underprivileged children in orphanages. He became a role model for many, inspiring them to join his mission of serving society. Learn more @Sarathy. From his school days, Sarathy visited over 20+ Homes in Chennai, including those for special children, cancer patients, and the mentally challenged. He dedicated himself to uplifting the spirits of the residents through cleaning, feeding, and heartfelt conversations. Driven by his passion, he founded Aarathy Charitable Trust and Idhaya Vaasal Elders' Home in January 2008 along with his close friend Dr. Surya. Though he tragically passed away in December 2010 at the age of 26, his legacy of selfless service lives on through the continued efforts of his dedicated friends and volunteers.

Mrs. R. Pushpavalli, President of the Trust, is like a mother to the Founder, Parthasarathy. She leads the Home with care and dedication, treating everyone like family. Despite financial difficulties during the intial period, she has generously supported the charity from her pension. Her kindness and spirituality shine through in her love for serving the elderly, a passion she developed during her time in Salem, her hometown.

Dr. C.R.Suriyakumar, PhD, Secretary of the Trust, was a close friend of Sarathy, supporting him in all his service endeavors. Now, he manages the administration of the Trust and the Elders' Home. In the early days of the home's establishment, he provided free meals three times a day from his Rusi Mess's kitchen for the elderly residents. Additionally, he donated 25 steel cots and offered 2,000 sq.ft of residential space in Velachery, Chennai, for the Trust's activities. With Sarathy employed in an MNC, Suriyakumar took on the responsibility of caring for the elders, becoming an integral part of the family. As the Managing Director of Sanath Tech Solutions Pvt Ltd, a technical writing and web development company, Dr. Suriyakumar continues to contribute generously from his own funds to support the charity's endeavors whenever needed.

Mr. S. Sanathkumar, Treasurer of the Trust, has been a part of the Sarathy's Idhaya Vaasal family since childhood. Growing up with Sarathy's love and care, he developed a natural inclination to help the elderly and support needy patients. Despite being an IT employee now, he dedicates his free time to take the elders on outings to temples and picnics. During the initial and challenging times of the elders' home, he generously contributed from his piggy bank savings, demonstrating his commitment to the cause.

Trust's Building Construction Mission

New Building Sketch

Charity Fundraising

We're currently facing significant expenses in rent and salaries, leaving us unable to save for our dream new home. In 2020, we initiated a fundraising mission and have since purchased a 7,200 sq.ft. plot in Kanchivakkam, near Padappai, in the Trust's name. Our plan is to construct a 4-story building on 3,700 sq.ft. of this land.

We're now actively seeking donations for the construction phase, with the first phase requiring 1 crore rupees. We appeal to all kind-hearted individuals to generously support us in building this home, which will provide shelter for at least 75 homeless, helpless, or destitute individuals. Any assistance, no matter how small, will greatly aid our noble cause of providing charity services to those in need.
